Looking for a friend to share good times and if God blesses the relationship, a more deep and enduring partnership. I have a busy but balanced life and have been characterized as low maintenance. Looking for the same. I relish the time spent together with a good friend but I am completely comfortable with the liberty for each to pursue separate interests, and perhaps some day to share them. My work is sometimes intense but I do find the time to rest and recharge, essential and Biblical, and I am at the stage in my life where I have time to cultivate friendships.
My faith is deeply personal and I try to lead a life that will generate the questions I can respond to as illustrated in 1 Peter 3:15-16. We are not who we are by our merit and the only thing that separates me from non-believers is the cross. With each passing day I become more convinced of my need for a savior. The verses teach that my attitude should be gratitude and humility and love.
My family is important, though we are geographically scattered. I have two wonderful adult daughters. No grand kids yet. My youngest lives in New Mexico. My oldest moved to Montana, giving me another opportunity to explore.
My interests lean toward intellectual, including reading, PBS, music and art. I enjoy engaging political discussion and history. I am not a brainiac, but I do have interests in many topics and have been called a 'ringer? at Trivial Pursuit. If you've heard of muons and charm quarks, you have an idea of how esoteric my memory banks can be (LOL), but I am really a regular guy.
I have traveled the West and Southeast extensively and indulge my interest in photography. I particularly enjoy traveling back roads and seeing the country most miss, and wonder what it must have been like to be with Lewis and Clark, or Kit Carson, first setting eyes on this great and vast country. I like the stark desolation of the desert and I am enthralled by the high country. Do you like walking through the pines and listening to the wind blow through the treetops?
Outdoor activity is mostly bicycling and hiking though in Phoenix you may find me hibernating when temps exceed 100 (forget the dry heat myth). I am a Cubs fan. That makes me a philosopher and familiar with delayed gratification ("wait until next year"). I will cheer for the D'Backs when they play other teams. My real sports passion is LSU athletics. I bleed purple and gold.
My sense of humor is alternately goofy (Marx Brothers) or obscure (it's funny after I explain it) and I love to poke fun at some of life's absurdities. I liked George Carlin (when he was clean - a moment of silence please) and admire Bill Cosby (who always is). Do you have an easy smile?
I am rhythmically challenged. If you enjoy dancing, you are warned (LOL), but I do love music of many genres. Have not done much dancing since disco (had a white suit once, but looked more like Steve Martin (happy feet) ? had the rabbit ears too), and would be willing to try a turn on the floor with a gentle partner.
Who am I looking for? Well I have no ideal person in mind, but there should be enough in common to form the foundation of similar values and interests, with a few differences to add zest. Faith, integrity and healthy habits are essential. Political similarities probably mean harmony since I only think Carville and Matalin can pull off being polar opposites. Inquisitive searchers welcome. I hope to meet someone who has held on to her joy in the face of life's disappointments; someone affectionate, kind, and with compassion and a spirit of forgiveness (I will mess up occasionally).
